Abstract     Impaired hand function is often seen in long-term hemodialysis patients. The aim of the study was to compare the incidence of hand dysfunction in patients dialyzed more than 10 years and less than 10 years. A total of 41 patients underwent clinical and electroneurographic examination. Hand examination included clinical signs of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), 4 dynamic and 8 static parameters of hand function. The respond to each test was classified as normal or impaired. The parameters of hand function did not differ between dominant and non-dominant hand, and the arms with A-V fistulae or without it. In patients dialyzed more than 10 years hand function was most severely impaired. Impaired hand function is often present in patients dialyzed for more than 10 years. It can severely affect their life and may have an important social and professional impact.
