Abstract     Uremia is accompanied by numerous metabolic changes and hypertension, and therefore is dangerous for function and structure of cardiovascular system. A group of 20 patients treated by peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) was investigated through a period of 3 years, all in aim to observe and follow the course of hypertension, and the occurrence of cardiovascular damages. Changes of cardiovascular system were determined by echocardiography and RR Holter. During the very period, thickness of posterior wall and interventricular septum did not change. Diameter of left ventricle in diastole was statistically significantly increased (p < 0.05) and there were no changes in width of aorta and left atrium. Systolic function of left ventricle determined by the means of ejection and shortening fractions, showed the significant decrease of the values (p < 0.01). The mass of left ventricle was unchanged. Hypertension disappeared by the application of CAPD treatment in 14 patients, and 6 ones are still on antihypertensive treatment. CAPD represents the satisfactory method for the uremics treatment, and can slow down the development of cardiovascular damages. Therefore, it is a method of choice for the patients of the third, and those ones with already damaged cardiovascular system.
