Abstract     We analyzed the current success rate and the occurrence of the complications at the insertion of hemodialysis catheters at various site. A comparison to some previous results was done. Femoral vein insertions had the lowest failure (1,5%) and other complication (1,1%) rate vs jugular (7,6% and 7,5%, respectively) and subclavian (13,9% and 4,9%, respectively) veins. Compared to previous results, there were more failures at subclavian vein insertions. Further improvements could probably be achieved by improved skills and especially by additional technical aids (like ultrasound guidance).
