Abstract     The percutaneous renal biopsy has become a useful and integral part of the diagnosis and management of patients with kidney disease. Several studies showed that the pre-biopsy predicted diagnosis and prognosis changed in up to 50% of the patients, therapy changed in up to 30% of patients. Renal biopsy has the greatest impact in patients with nephrotic syndrom, proteinuria and rapidly worsening of renal function and in patients with suspected systemic disease. At our department the number of elderly patients with renal biopsy raised from 4,3% in 1985 to 20,8% in 1995. The most common indication was nephrotic syndrom.
