Abstract     In 1995 an anaerobic pre-treatment plant for pig slurry from the Farma Ihan was put into operation. With a recycling channel flushing system, water was replaced by the liquid part of the slurry and the daily amount of the slurry was reduced from more than 700 m3 to less than 300 m3. Mechanical separation provides elimination of solid parts, whereas the liquid part is pumped into four (4x1250 m3) CSTR digestors, made of concrete, with a running temperature of 38 degree C and HRT of 22 days. After digestion ca. 70% of the daily input is centrifuged following addition of flocculants. In the paper the efficiency of the pretreatment plant during the last six month is presented. On average 40 tons of organic fertiliser and almost 3700 m3 of bio-gas (71 % CHa) were achieved daily from less than 300 m3 of the slurry. The COD reduction of anaerobic digestion was up to 80%. Regarding the fact that the digested material is very highly loaded with nitrogen, the anaerobic pretreatment plant has to be upgraded with a nutrient removal stage before connection to the municipal WWTP.
