Abstract     Barium enema is still a good and useful imaging method for viewing the anorectal area. Polyps, tumours, inflammatory changes and complications as stenoses and fistulas are easily recognisable. After operative procedures stenotic anastomoses and-or fistulas can be assesed, the examination modified according to the clinical problem. In cases of cutaneous fistulas a fistulography can be done, in cases of pelvine reservoir the pouch is viewed by pouchgraphy. CT and MR are the imaging modalities for assessing the local spread in cases of anorectal tumours, MR being by far more sensitive and also a good examining method in cases of fistulas. Defecography is a functional examination for detecting functional and structural changes of anorectum, in some cases the only possibility for finding fistulas.
