Abstract		The role of pharmacist in contemporary pharmacotherapeutics is discussed from the aspect of the entry of a new medicinal product to a national health care system. This entry is viewed as a process consisting of five distinctive steps: regulatory procedures for marketing authorization, pricing of a medicinal product, reimbursement classification, hospital formulary listing, and therapeutic outcomes research. Pharmacist is the expert with specific knowledge on the medicinal products and its use and can significantly contribute to the rational selection and usage of drugs. New systemic developments on the part of medicinal products challenging the pharmaceutical profession and the whole health system are discussed in the light of accession of Slovenia to the legal framework of European Union, implementing pharmaceutical care programs of the EuroPharm Forum, and the international development of managed care systems.
Summary		Vlogo farmacevta v sodobni farmakoterapiji obravnavamo z vidika prihoda novega zdravila v nacionalni zdravstveni sistem. Ta prihod obravnavamo kot proces, ki vsebuje pet pomembnih faz: regulatorne postopke pri pridobivanju dovoljenja za promet, določitev cene, razvrstitev na liste za poplačilo, uvrstitev v bolnišnične formularje in raziskovanje terapevtskih izidov. Farmacevt je strokovnjak s specialnim znanjem o zdravilu in njegovi uporabi, zato lahko bistveno prispeva k smotrni izbiri in uporabi zdravil. Izzive za farmacevtsko stroko in celoten sistem zdravstva v zvezi z zdravili obravnavamo v luči privzema evropskega pravnega reda na področju farmacevtskih izdelkov, programov farmacevtske skrbi EuroPharm Foruma ter razvoja sistemov vodene zdravstvene skrbi (managed care) v svetu.
