Abstract     A retrospective analysis with emphasis on cardiac arrhythmias was made of patients visiting the cardiological outpatient office Sežana during a one-year period. We analysed clinical data of 1196 patients visiting the cardiological outpatient office for the first time between 1 May 1999 and 1 May 2000. Heart rhythm disorders were present in 216 patients (18 %), age range was 44 to 84 years. Atrial fibrillation was present in 56 % of patients: chronic in 87 % and paroxysmal in 13 %. We discovered paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia in 16 %, cardiac rhythm disturbances with bradycardia in 7 % and benign ventricular extrasystole in 19 % of patients. We may conclude that cardiac arrhythmias were present in 18 %, of patients visiting the cardiological outpatient office for the first time. Thirty-five patients (16 %) were asymptomatic. whereas 29 were sent to our clinic because of other diseases. The most frequent arrhythmia was atrial fibrillation discovered in 56 % of patients.
