Abstract     In order to assess safety and efficacy of oral propafenone for conversion of recent onset of atrial fibrillation, 71 patients admitted to emergency department were studied. Among them, 41 were women and 30 men, mean age 67,2 years. Arterial hypertension was present in 06,3 % of patients, 29.5 % were without a structural heart disease. Conversion rate of atrial fibrillation at 8 hours was 70 %. Adverse events were observed in 3 patients: pauses of more than 2 seconds at the time of conversion to sinus rhythm and transient hypotension. Results of the study confirm efficacy and safey of oral propafenone for conversion of recent onset of atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm in patients with no signs of heart failure.
