Abstract		The aim of our work was imumnological characterisation of Borelia garinii cystic forms using SDS-PAGE, Western blotting end indirect immunofluorescent test with a panel of eight, B. burgdorferi-specific monoclonal antibodies. The results of our study showed substantial differences in protein profile and antigenic structure of B. garinii cystic and vegetative forms Protein expression was significantly lower in cysts and only two distinct antigens were present, namely OspA and flagellin. These findings confirm the suspected low metabolical activity of the cysts and indicate the possibility of survival of the cysts during antibiotic treatment of Lyme borreliosis, as well as the possibility of protection against the host's immune sytem.
Summary		Z raziskavo smo želeli imunološko okarakterizirati cistične oblike spirohete Borrelie garinii z elektroforezo v poliakrilamidnem gelu, postopkom Western blotting in s posrednim imunofluorescenčnim testom z monoklonskimi protitelesi, specifičnimi za posamezne antigene B. burgdorferi. Rezultati naših raziskav kažejo, da se cistične B. garinii po beljakovinskem profilu in antigenski zgradbi bistveno razlikujejo od vegetativnih oblik, saj je bila izraženost proteinov pri cističnih oblikah precej manjša, ugotovljena pa sta bila le dva izrazita antigena, OspA in flagelin. Omenjene ugotovitve potrjujejo domnevno nizko presnovno aktivnost borelijskih cističnih oblik in nakazujejo možnost preživetja cist med antibiotičnim zdravljenjem, kakor tudi zaščite pred gostiteljevim imunskim sistemom.
