Abstract     Defects of the upper jaw can be divided in two groups: congenital and acquired. Congenital defects are mainly clefts in different locations, whereas acquired defects are mostly a consequence of trauma or surgical treatment of neoplastic disease. The task of maxillo-facial prosthetics is to design and manufacture prosthetic appliances which will cover the defect of hard and soft tissues, separate the nasal and oral cavities and permit close postoperative follow-up of the affected areas. Clinical and laboratory procedures used in this kind of treatment usually require a lot of time and skill. The article describes a patient with a defect of the hard and soft palate, which was covered with an overdenture supported on two conus crowns. The overdenture was connected with an acrylic obturator which fit into the defect and offerd additional retention of the prosthetic appliance.
