Abstract		The effect of full mouth disinfection on metabolic control was studied in seven patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Each patient received the periodontal treatment twice at an interval of 6 months. A clinical examination including assessment of the periodontal status and HbA1c levels was performed prior to and at 3 and 6 months after each treatment. Analysis of the results showed that the periodontal parameters and HbA1c levels were decreased at 3 months and elevated at 6 months after therapy. The study suggests that full-mouth disinfection has a beneficial effect on the periodontal health and metabolic control of insulin-dependent diabetics.
