Abstract     The purpose of the study was to examine nutrient standing stocks and nutrient retention in the intermittent Lake Cerknica. Reed productivity (Phragmitetum australis) was measured as well as nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in plant tossues and in sediments. The statistical analysis (Wilcokson signed rank test) was used to estimate the nutrient retention in reeds data gained over a period of five years (MOP-HMZ). Sediment is the biggest pool of nutrients in Lake Cerknica. Reeds act as a sink for anorganic nutrients during regular flooding and as their in dry periods.
