Abstract     Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common neurological disorders and it has a devastating impact on people's psychological and social functioning. The problem of unemployement for people with multiple sclerosis is very important, often can provoke a new attack of illness and must be taken into account in the management of the disease. It has long been recognised that for the individual to be productive is one of the basic human needs. There are reports that the punctuality, attendance, productivity, leadership ability and ambition of disabled workers were better or equal to healthy workers. The two major factor which influence the employment of people with multiple sclerosis are disease and demographic characteristics. Employment provides people with multiple sclerosis to preserve their previous role within family and society. This is even more im- portant than the need for financial reward. Fatigue and disability are cited as the most common reasons for stopping work. The education of clinicians, employers and others on the interventions that can help people with multiple sclerosis to continue their work is of great importance. The role of Multiple Sclerosis Society for the development of comprehensive psychosocial medical services should be increased.
