Abstract		The significance of hemp which is accompanying the human race some thousand years is primarily in its use for textile purposes. The primitive therapeutic and ceremonial use was nowadays replaced by abuse among young population. Selections of new varieties for the use in textile industry, and legal international measures for the controlling of this plant represent, inter allia, steps for effective against its abuse. The consequences of cannabis abuse are not fatal, but the most important responsibility of this illicit drug is the introducrion to abuse of other drugs and consequently to incurable addiction. Therapeutic potential, which is somewhere attributed to the active constituent THC, has no confirmation in pharmacological and clinical investigations.
Summary		Pomen konoplje, ki že nekaj tisočletij spremlja človeški rod, je predvsem v njeni uporabi za tekstil. Uporaba v primitivne terapevtske in obredne namene je v novejšem času zamenjala zloraba med mlado populacijo. Selekcioniranje novih vrst, ki so namenjene samo za industrijsko proizvodnjo, in ukrepi za pravno ureditev mednarodnega nadzora nad to rastlino, predstavljajo pomembne dogodke, ki prispevajo tudi k preprečevanju njene zlorabe. Posledice zlorabe kanabisa niso usodne, obtožujoče za to prepovedano drogo pa je to, da praviloma predstavlja uvod v zlorabo drugih prepovedanih drog in tako v neozdravljivo zasvojenost. Zdravilni učinki, ki se ponekod pripisujejo aktivni sestavini THC, nimajo potrditve v farmakoloških in kliničnih raziskavah.
