Abstract     Autofluorescence - fluorescence of tissues induced by a specific wavelength without photodynaanic markers offers new possibilities in detection and localization of early laryngeal carcinoma. The recognition is based on different fluorescent properties of normal and cancerous tissues. Lung imaging endoscope (LIFE) system (Xillix Co:, Richmond, Canada) was used for the observation of laryngeal autofluorescence. In 111 patients the laryngoscopic appearance. obtained by microlaryngoscopy was compared to fluorescence image and to patho-histological findings of the observed sites. The results of this study how that detection of laryngeal malignancies with fluorescence laryngoscopy is better than with standard microlaryngoscopy and that the recognition is even more successful if the two methods are used in combination.
