Abstract     Some children with epilepsy are successful in education and do not need any adaptations to the learning process, while others have evident special educational needs. These range along a continuum from mild to severe, and from short-term to lifelong. New educational legislation is going to make it possible for children with epilepsy and learning difficulties who have significantly lower educational achievements than their peers to be placed in learning programs with more intensive forms of teaching assistance. Most of the children will be placed in programmes operating within primary schools. Children with epilepsy and severe learning difficulties have very heterogeneous special needs and therefore require multidisciplinary managementby medical and educational specialists.
Summary     Nekateri otroci z epilepsijo so učno uspešni in ne potrebujejo prilagoditev v procesu izobraževanja, drugi otroci z epilepsijo pa imajo jasno izražene posebne vzgojno-izobraževalne potrebe. Posebne vzgojno-izobraževalne potrebe se razprostirajo od lažjih do kompleksnih ter od občasnih do vseživljenjskih. Nova šolska zakonodaja bo otrokom z epilepsijo in učnimi težavami, ki pomembno odstopajo po izobraževalnih dosežkih od dosežkov vrstnikov, omogočila usmeritev v izobraževalne programe z intenzivnejšimi oblikami učne pomoči. Večina otrok bo usmerjenih v programe, ki se bodo izvajali v rednih osnovnih šolah. Otroci z epilepsijo in učnimi težavami imajo pogosto zelo heterogene posebne potrebe, zato potrebujejo multidisciplinarno obravnavo zdravstvenih in pedagoških delavcev.
