Abstract		The author focuses on the most frequently used clinical and functional contemporary approaches in the diagnostics of neonatal seizures and status epilepticus in newborns. The majority of the article deals with various concepts in the treatment regime for status epilepticus. It states all the drugs used and those mentioned in the current literature as successful remedies for refractory seizures, as well as those which are seldom used but efficient for the treatment of status epilepticus. The use of lidocaine is recommended for intractable status epilepticus, especially at neonatal intensive care units where ventilatory support for possible complications is easy to arrange.
Summary		Avtor v članku poudari kateri so najpogostejši sodobni klinični in funkcijski diagnostični pristopi k ugotavljanju krčev (in epileptičnega statusa) v novorojenčkovem obdobju. V nadaljevanju se posveti predvsem pristopom k zdravljenju epileptičnega statusa. Navaja najpogosteje uporabljana sodobna zdravila in tista, ki so bila v literaturi najpogosteje omenjena kot najuspešnejša v primerih, ko krčev nikakor ne uspemo ustaviti. Našteje tudi redkeje uporabljana, a zanesljiva zdravila za zaustavljanje epileptičnega statusa. Za prekinjanje trdovratnega epileptičnega statusa priporoča predvsem pogostejšo uporabo lidokaina, zlasti na oddelkih za intenzivno zdravljenje, kjer je, v primerih, ko bi se pojavili morebitni zapleti, hitro dosegljiva tudi umetna ventilacija.
