Abstract		This year's Nobel prize winners in Physiology and Medicine were pioneers in research of one type of neuron communication, the slow synaptic transfer. It's discovery was key to the better understanding of how the nervous system works, discovering mechanisms whereby disturbances in the interneuronal synaptic communications may cause neurologic and psychiatric diseases, and last but not least, helped in the development of drugs for these disorders.
