Abstract     Fluorinated quinolones are inhibitors of bacterial DNA enzyme, thereby hindering the DNA and RNA syntheses in the bacterial cell and causing its ruin. Due to their favourable pharmacokinetic characteristics they are used in treatment of systemic bacterial infections. With the exception of norfloxacin having the bioavailability of 30 to 40 concurrent therapy with antacides the quinolones are less absorbed. There exist also an interaction with theophylline, H2 blockers and nonsteroidal antirheumatics
