| Abstract | In a 10-day double-blind clinical trial the effect of ambroxol and bromhexin tablets on the symptoms of COPD, especially on the sputum characteristies, was compared. Ambroxol was found to decrease the viscosity of sputum and facilitated expectoration significantly more than bromhexin (p<0.05). In addition the effect of ambroxol syrup was compared to that of karboximetilcystein syrup, but no difference between them was found. Previous long-term investigations described by other authors have also confirmed the positive effect of ambroxol in the therapy and prevention of COPD | |
