Abstract     DDD activities rely on the use of agents for suppressing harmful organisms, known as biocides. The legal aspects of the placement of biocides into circulation are regulated by the Chemicals Act, which was adopted on 28 April 1999 and was published in issue 36/99 of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, and the Rules on the Placement of Biocides into Circulation (Ur. I. RS, No 38/2000), while specific requirements in connection with biocides are also laid down by the Rules on the Conditions, Method and Means for Conducting Disinfection, Deinsectisation and Deratisation (Ur. I. RS, No. 88/2000). The chemicals act and the rules on the placement of biocides into cirulation regulate everything necessary to ensuring the appropriate safety of biocides, providing the right information for the user and ensuring the safe use of biocides. The rules on the conditions, method and means for conducting disinfection, deinsectisation and deratisation set out the conditions that must be fulfilled by legal and natural persons that perform DDD activities, the manner in which activities are provided and the agents that can be used for such purposes. Under the chemicals act, the Chemicals Bureau of the Republic of Slovenia, which commenced operations or 29 August 1999, is responsible for ensuring chemical safety in Slovenia. Legal and natural persons that produce or trade hazardous chemicals must register with the office. Legal and natural persons that fulfil the conditions set out in the rules on the conditions, method and means for conducting disinfection., deinsectisation and deratisation must also register with the bureau if they purchase biocides on the domestic market that are classified in the group of highly toxic or toxic chemicals, or in each case if they trade with biocides that have any of the properties specified in pount 10 of Article 2 of the chemicals act (trade is import, export, sale or any assignment to a third part).
