Abstract     Depression is a major public health problem due to its serious humanistic and economic consequences. Although theoretical knowledge of recognition and treatment of depression has increased considerably, this illness is still too often unrecognised and untreated or undertreated. According to the data from literature, depression management can be improved considerably by using certain educational measures. Consequently, improvements in certain health indicators on a national level can be observed, for example in reduction of suicide rate.
