Abstract     The rapid development of molecular biology has significantly improved the understanding of patogenesis, diagnostics, prevention and treatment of many diseases. The liver is affected by various genetic, infective and malignant diseases which require application of molecular methods. This methods have been used to identify and classify hepatitis C and hepatitis G viruses on the basis of their genomic structures. Molecular diagnostic is used to diagnose and monitor patients with viral hepatitis. Rapid development of methods for nucleic acid-sequencing and advantages in discovering of gene function have improved the diagnostics of hemochromatosis, Wilson disease, alfaantitripsin deficiency, cystic fibrosis and other inherited diseases. Improvements in cloning and gene-expression methodology enabled the rational protein and drug designing for use in diagnostics and therapy, in form of antigens (for development of the diagnostic tests and vaccines), or therapeutics (production of the nucleic-acid based and recombinant products). Studies of genes, ologonucleotides and ribozyimes are opening very challenge ideas of the completely new therapy approaches.
