Abstract		The author sets out the principles governing the preparation of teeth for prosthetic treatment and illustrates them with a case report. The patient presented with a poor condition of three posterior teeth. The preparatory treatment comprised the following measures: endodontic therapy, periodontal treatment (scaling and root planing, partial extraction of a molar), a periodontal open flap operation with alveoloplasty, and laser treatment of a periapical lesion. The treatment and its successful outcome, including prosthetic reconstruction, are presented in Figures 1 and 2. In conclusion, the author warns against premature decisions to extract teeth that could still be successfully treated.
