Abstract | For pulmonary patients, mountaineering can be a way to relax and maintain a certain degree of physical fitness. However, the functional disability resulting from a pulmonary disease poses a risk of accidents or injury during physical exertion. Dyspnea is the principal factor which limits the degree of exertion. The physicians helping such patients in the field should recognize the possible triggers of dyspnea and attempt to alleviate them. Pulmonary patients should obtain professional advice concerning the appropriate degree of physical exertion prior to mountaineering.
