Abstract     The shortage of appropriate skilled workers in the field of the environmental health policy in most European countries proved that the directing of undergraduate study into a very narrow field is neither a rational nor a longterm solution and cannot suit the requirements of practical work. For twenty years the World Health Organization has been striving to complete the existing curriculums of technical faculties and faculties oriented to health care with the contents of public health and environmental health. The knowledge of all mentionned fields is essential to solve and perform the complex tasks in the field of publich health and environmental ecology. Two ways of educations have been formed in Europe; education of environmental health engineers with the emphasis upon environmental health contents and education of sanitary engineers with an emphasis upon public health and sanitary-tehnical contents. The programme of environmental health at the University of Strathclyde, the programme of environmental engineering at the University of Zurich, the programme of environmental landscape engineering at the University of Trento and the programme of sanitary engineering at the University of Rijeka, can be compared to the programme of sanitary engineering at the University College for Health Care in Ljubljana. The last one is written according to the directions of the World Health Organization in cooperation with the scientists from the field of the preventive medicine. It is also includes the contents of study of environmental health. More and more universities in Europe represents the possibilities and areas of employment of graduates and advantages of the credit system of study.
