Abstract     World health organisation has issued international health regulations to prevent entry of quarantine diseases such as plague, cholera and yellow fever. International health regulations describe procedures connected with preventing entry and spreading of those diseases. In research project procedures for preventing entry of quarantine diseases with ships were described. Every year aproxirnatly 1200 ships from various parts of the world with 20000 crew members and aproximatly 2000 passengers reach port of Koper. Health inspectorate is performing surveillance on the basis of international health regulations. Various possible procedures for protection agains entry of quarantine diseases have been represented with ragard to epidemiological situation in states form which ships reach to port. Two procedures have been described. One when there is no danger for entry of those diseases and another when a greath risk for entry of those diseases exist or when a person sick with one of those diseases stated in the international health regulations. Procedure, when epidemiological situation is favourable, is performed by health inspector. When epidemiological situation is unfavourable a procedure is done by health inspector and medical doctor specialist for maritime medicine working together. For reliable prevention of entry quarantine diseases and undisturbed ship traffic, flow of goods and people is nacessary to ensure 24 hour presence of health inspector in port of Koper and constant readiness of medical doctor specialist for maritime medicine. Basis have been given to define exact parts of Regional Institute of Public Health of Koper, Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia and Ctinic for infectious diseases and febrile states of Clinical Center of Ljubljana.
