Abstract     The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of detomidine and butorphanol on brain activity, i.e. on alpha, beta, theta and delta brain waves. A pEEG monitor with computer-modified EEG and measurements of individual brain wave proportions (beta, alpha, theta, delta) was used. The experiment was performed on ten coldblood horses. The study was divided into three time periods, during which, in addition to the effect of detomidine and butorphanol, pain sensation was also examined. The values of beta, alpha, theta and delta brain waves and their proportions in the sum total of all brain waves were monitored. In particular, the inhibitory effect of butorphanol on the central nervous system (after prior application of detomidine), which contributes to better and longer neuroleptanalgesia, was proved and explained. It was established that detomidine, if administered alone, causes a certain discordance between the activities of the two cerebral hemispheres, which did not occur in the group which was also given butorphanol.
Summary     Raziskovali smo vpliv detomidina in butorfanola na delovanje možganov oz. na možganske valove alfa, beta, teta in delta. Pri raziskavi smo uporabili monitor pEEG z računalniško predelanim EEG in meritvami deležev možganskih valov (beta, alfa, teta, delta). Poskus smo opravili na desetih hladnokrvnih konjih. Raziskavo smo razdelili na tri časovna obdobja, v katerih smo poleg učinkovanja detomidina in butorfanola preverjali tudi zaznavanje bolečine. Spremljali smo vrednosti možganskih valov beta, alfa, teta in delta ter njihove deleže v vsoti vseh možganskih valov. Dokazali in pojasnili smo, po predhodni uporabi detomidina, zlasti zaviralni vpliv butorfanola na osrednje živčevje, ki pripomore k boljši in daljši nevroleptanalgeziji. Ugotovili smo, da sam detomidin povzroča določeno neskladje v delovanju obeh možganskih hemisfer, česar pa ni bilo pri skupini, ki je prejela tudi butorfanol.
