Abstract | Therapeutic approaches to vascular dementia mainly rely on reducing the risk of recurrent vascular events. Aspirin is the most used drug, but it has potential serious adverse effects. To potentiate the effect of aspirin, a combination of aspirin and dipyridamol is recommended. In patients with known contraindications for aspirin or dipyridamol, clopidogrel is used. Frequently used nimodipine has no proven efficacy. A promising drug is an antagonist of NMDA receptors memantine. The role of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors is still being discussed. | |
