Abstract     In 1996 the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Ljubljana prepared a proposal for the classification of disabilities in the field of physical injuries in accordance to the latest legislation. The classification system represents a catalogue of physical injuries and divides them into three categories: minor, major and severe physical injury. The primary purpose of this catalogue was to help the doctors-experts in their decisions while giving expert opinions on physical injuries. Soon after issuing, the catalogue became used by the police department. On the basis of a shortened "notification on physical injuries" form, filled out by health institutions, the police were determining the severeness of physical injuries by themselves and using it as a basis of criminal delation. This resulted in numerous irregularities, especially when determining the severeness of cervical spine injuries in traffic accidents. We are trying to replenish and supplement the existing catalogue of cervical spine injuries with the help of experts from the fields of traumatology and orthopedics and according to the latest professional literature.
