Abstract		Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of adult morbidity and mortality in developed countries. There are several clinical syndromes: stabile angina pectoris, vasospastic angina pectoris and acute coronary syndrome including unstabile angina pectoris and acute myocardial infarction. The dynamics of atherosclerotic plaque is the basis for understanding the pathophysiology associated with various clinical manifestations of coronary artery disease. In some countries the incidence of coronary artery disease is in regression thanks to a good management of risk factors and the development of new therapeutic methods.
