Abstract     In the paper we propose detection of a foot contact phase with portable sensory system. The sensory system is a part of the feedback system in forthcoming FES gait re-education orthosis. It consists of two goniometers, two accelerometers and a gyroscope mounted on an aluminum plate. As a reference measurement system an optical contactless position system and force plate were used. Three healthy subjects participated in the experiment. They were asked to walk with a speed as during normal walking, then faster and afterwards slower. We made a comparison between the sensory system data and reference measurements in order to establish the sensory data necessary for stance phase detection. We concluded that all sensors mounted on the plate represent a very efficient feedback system, especially when we integrate them to function as single system for gait phase detection.
