The dynamic nature of this interaction is created in part by the child's continual development, maturation and learning. Their goal is to improve the child's functional performance and enhance his ability to interact with his physical and social environment. The author presents the application of a Person - Environment - Occupational Model, and a Model of Human Occupation as tools for the therapist to apply at planning and controlling occupational therapy treatment while laying stress on an the active role of the child subject to occupational therapy.
