Abstract     Special therapy is required for a burnt patient going through the acute phase of the wound healing proccess. It begins with anticontractural positions in bed. The positions are ensured by different standard devices as well as those suggested by the occupational therapist. The nursing staff, taking care of the patient for 24 hours a day, are informed by the occupational therapists on the novelties concerning correct positions of the patient. Taking into account the biological facts of tissue healing, it is extremely important to take care of correct body positions in the acute phase as well as the subsequent phase of tissue growth. Essential in the latter phase is the pressure exerted onto the affected surface through a splint, compression garments and other devices in order to reduce scars. This applies not only to burns but also numerous other tissue or skin injuries. The biomechanical concept is followed by a holistic approach. It is only then that occupational therapy may produce a complex effect.
