Abstract     In general, microorganisms that cause infections in dentistry are well known. They always cause mixed infections. Because of the specific characteristics of these infections, antibiotics as primary and basic therapy are used only in osteomyelitis of the jaws. In all other infections, antibiotics are needed oniy occasionally or as additional therapy: tn periodontai disease, antibiotics are required only in certain forms of the disease as additional therapy. indications for antibiotic therapy as support to etiologic dental interventions are also known in odontogenic infections. In predisposed patients, antibiotic prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis (e.g. 2 g amoxiciltin orally for patients non-allergic to penicillin) is required for ali procedures in the oral cavity, which cause bacteremia. It is administered one hour before the procedure starts.
