Abstract		External quality assessment is essential for laboratory accreditation. As yet, there is no national scheme for external quality assessment in microbiology available in Slovenia. Therefore, laboratories have to participate in international schemes. The Institute of Microbiology and Immunology of the Medical Faculty Ljubljana has been participating in the United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Scheme (UK NEQAS) for Microbiology since 1999. The UK NEQAS is a large national scheme for UK laboratories with a large number (more than 1200) of participants from 23 countries and, therefore, practically an international scheme.
