Abstract		For accreditation, a diagnostic laboratory should undertake quality control procedures for monitoring the validity of tests and calibrations. For that reason, the serological laboratory of the Institute of Public Health Kranj joined an external quality assurance survey program offered by Labquality. Labquality sends diagnostic specimens to participating laboratories and compares their results. Two thousand three hundred and thirty-three laboratories from 33 countries participate in the Labquality survey. Participation in an intemational quality assurance survey offers our laboratory greater self-confidence and experience in routine work as well as in building a quality control system. The survey results provide useful information for planning routine work. In addition, they offer a possibility to evaluate diagnostic methods and tests used in the laboratory and to choose the optimal tests for diagnostic purposes.
