Abstract		In the year 2000, Slovenia started participating in the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (EARSS) project. Ten microbiology laboratories participating in the EARSS project cover over 90% of the population of the country. From the 1st of July to the 31st of December, 154 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus from blood cultures were reported, with an overall percentage of 21.4% of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) strains. In the same period, 40 first Isolates of Strepfococcus pneumoniae from blood and/or cerebrospinal fluid were reported to the EARSS. Among them, 22.5% showed low-level resistance to penicillin with E-test MICs from 0.094 to 1 mg/L. The article also presents data on resistance for some other antibiotics tested.
