Abstract     Even though the initial CPR success rate is increasing over the last years, 50 % of initial survivers die in hospital within the first 24 hours. Cardiac causes account for 40 to 50 % of these deaths. Postresuscitation myocardial dysfunction and acute coronary occlusions are more common than recurrent complex arrhytmias. Monitoring, treatment with dobutamine and more agresive reperfusion treatment of myocardial infarction may have benefitial efeet on the outcome of the patients after cardiac arrest and successful resuscitation.
