Abstract     Hyponatremia (serum sodium concentration < 135 mmol/L) is a common laboratory finding in clinical medicine: In most cases the cause is evident; concomitant heart, liver, gastrointestinal or renal dysfunction help in etiological explanation of hyponatremia. Syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) poses more diagnostic dilemmas. If hyponatremia is caused by a classical endocrine dysfunction, the diagnosis can be delayed. Two cases of hyponatremia are described. In the first case hyponatremia is a consequence of hormone secretion caused by exogenous stimulus, in the second case hyponatremia is a consequence of primary hormone dysfunction.
