Abstract     During the period of 1.4.2000 to 31.3.2001 444 patients with acute coronary syndrome were admitted directly to the Center for Intensive Internal Medicine and 60 were transferred to our unit from other departments or hospitals. Overall mortality in patients with ST elevation acute myocardial infarction (AMp was 12.7%: 57% of patients with AMI were treated with primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. Aspirin was administered in 96% of AMI patients, ACE inhibitors in 72%, b blockers in 61 % and statins in 45% of patients. In patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction or unstable angina pectoris with positive or negative troponin T the mortality was 5%. 92% of these patients were treated with Aspirin, 65% with ACE inhibitors, 67% with b blockers and 45% with statins.
