Abstract     Purpose: The objective of enucleation is to achieve the best possible functional and cosmetic effect, reflected in good symmetry and motility of the eye prosthesis. Methods: The article presents the technique of enucleation with implantation of the hydroxyapatite implant. It describes our experience with additional materials which prevent complications in cases when it is not possible to use the patient's own sclera or that from the eye bank. The postenucleation socket syndrome and its treatment are presented. Conclusions: The hydroxyapatite orbital implant becomes a living part of the orbit and provides good motility ofthe eye prosthesis. The functional and cosmetic effects are excellent, with complications being relatively rare. it is important to prevent the postenucleation socket syndrome; to identify it early and to treat it by appropriate conservative or surgical means.
Summary     Izhodišča: Cilj enukleacije sta čim boljši funkcionalni in kozmetični učinek, ki se kažeta v dobri simetriji in gibljivosti očesne proteze. Metode: V članku je predstavljena tehnika enukleacije z implantacijo hidroxyapatitnega implanta. Opisane so izkušnje z dodatnimi materiali, ki preprečujejo zaplete v primeru, ko ni mogoče uporabiti bolnikove lastne sklere ali pa sklere iz očesne banke. Predstavljen je postenukleacijski sindrom in njegovo zdravljenje. Zaključki: Hidroksiapatitni orbitalni implant postane živi del orbite in nudi dobro gibljivost umetnega očesa. Funkcionalni in kozmetični rezultati so odlični, zapleti pa sorazmerno redki. Pomembno je preprečevanje postenukleacijskega sindroma, njegovo prepoznavanje in pravočasno zdravljenje, ki je lahko konzervativno ali pa kirurško.
