Abstract     Uveitis is relatively uncommon in children, but the association with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) is well known. The diagnosis of chronic iridocyclitis and its management is sometimes difficult. Clinical and epidemiological characteristics can assist us in the care of children with uveitis. The relationship between anterior uveitis and JRA is analysed, the clinical picture, therapy and ocular prognosis are presented. A review of inpatients treated during the last 10 years, and of the outpatient population treated during the last 5 years is presented. Uveitis associated with JRA is a serious disease with sight-threatening complications. Because of often-asymptomatic progression of chronic anterior uveitis, intensive co-operation between paediatricians and ophthalmologists is required. A child with JRA should be examined biomicroscopically every three to twelve months, depending on the type of JRA, positive ANA, and ocular involvement.
