Abstract | Background: Transient hyperphosphatasemia of infancy and childhood is a benign excessive elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase activity commonly associated with infection. Material and methods: Children younger than five years without physical or biochemical evidence of bone or liver disease with elevated serum alkaline phosphatase activity and spontaneous return to normal value, were included into the study. Results: Over the period of two years five children with infection and associated transient hyperphosphatasemia were fortuitously discovered at our department. Conclusion: Transient hyperphosphatasemia is a benign disorder and no extensive evaluation is needed because of high level of serum alkaline phosphatase. | |
