Abstract     Reactive arthritis is a serologically negative, sterile joint inflammation following an intestinal, respiratory or urogenital infection. Chlamydiae which are the most common cause of reactive arthritis are presented. The clinical picture, diagnostic procedure, treatment and the prediction of the course of disease are given. Special stress is laid on the pathogenesis of reactive arthritis which has not been elucidated yet. Its understanding will lead to a better diagnostic procedure and treatment of such patients.
