Abstract | According to current legislation, a driver is not allowed to drive a vehicle in road traffic if he/she is under the influence of psychoactive substances which reduce his-her ability to drive. A driver is considered to be under the influence of such substances when the presence of the substance in his body is established by means of special agents, equipment or professional examination. A professional examination is performed by an authorised physician. In Slovenia we do not have and adequate official protocol for such professional exminations yet. Since the beginning of the year 2000 the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Ljubljana has used a trial protocol which is subsequently to be used in the whole country. Through a survey which includes professional examinations for psychoactive substances performed at the Institute in the first nine months of the year 2000, we set out assess the adequacy of the proposed protocol and suggest guidelines for a quality assessment of the influence of psychoactive substances on the ability to drive. | |
