Abstract		For children with hearing impairment early identification and amplification are crucial, because amplification is the foundation on which habilitation is built. The hearing aid should provide audibility of the information-bearing sounds of speech without causing discomfort. It is important to prescribe flexible hearing aids with provision for considerable modification in electroacoustic characteristics. Digital hearing aids provide greater precision and variety in terms of selection and adjustment. Parents should take active role in care and use of hearing aids and should be treated as equal partners in the management of their hearing-impaired child.
