Abstract		Data on the number of children born in Slovenia from 1 January to 31 December per a calendar year are gathered in the Perinatal Information System of the Republic of Slovenia (PIS RS) and then revised on the basis of data contained in the Central Population Register, Mortality Database, and Foetal Mortality Information System. In 2000, 18,186 children, 8,767 girls and 9,419 boys, were born in Slovenia. According to the provisional data supplied by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, there was a notable increase in the number of Slovene citizens mostly on the account of the greater number of births. The number of live births rose by 4.5% compared to 1999. This chapter presents all live births, regardless of the child's birth weight, and all stillborn children weighing 600 g or more (multiple stillbirth irrespective of gestation age or weight of the stillborn child). Specific indicators of stillbirths, neonatal and perinatal mortality, and the number of births by region, sex, order of birth, and maternal age and marital status, are presented. Data on legal abortions are gathered in the Foetal Mortality information System, which contains data on all foetal deaths (legal abortions, spontaneous abortions, extrauterine pregnancies and other foetal deaths) in a calendar year. All providers are legally bound to supply these data irrespective of the source of payment. Mortality data indicate the number of deceased persons registered as permanently resident in Slovenia who died between 1 January and 30 December 2000. Data on the deceased and on the cause of death are collected routinely for the whole Slovenia, and serve as the basis for assessing the population health status. Summary		Podatke o rojstvih otrok zbiramo v Perinatalnem informacijskem sistemu Republike Slovenje (PIS RS), ki zajema vsa rojstva od 1. januarja do 31. decembra v Republiki Sloveniji. Podatke, zbrane v PIS RS, preverjamo in usklajujemo s podatki v Centralnem registru prebivalcev, Bazi podatkov umrlih in Informacijskem sistemu fetalnih smrti. V Sloveniji se je leta 2000 rodilo 18.186 novorojenčkov, 8767 deklic in 9419 dečkov. Po začasnih podatkih Statističnega urada Republike Slovenije se je občutneje povečalo število državljanov RS, predvsem na račun večjega števila rojstev (Statistične informacije, Statistični urad Republike Slovenije, Prebivalstvo (5/4), 9. november 2000, št. 273). Glede na leto 1999 se je povečalo število živorojenih za 4,5%. V poglavju prikazujemo živorojene, ne glede na porodno težo, in mrtvorojene s porodno težo 500 g in več (pri večplodnih nosečnostih ne glede na gestacijsko starost ali težo mrtvorojenega ploda). Prikazani so specifični kazalci mrtvorojenosti, umrljivosti neonatalne in perinatalne dobe ter število rojenih otrok po regijah, spolu, vrstnem redu rojstva, starosti in zakonskem stanu matere. Podatke o dovoljenih splavih zbiramo v Informacijskem sistemu fetalnih smrti (ISFS), ki zajema podatke v vseh fetalnih smrtih (dovoljeni splavi, spontani splavi, zunajmaternične nosečnosti, druge fetalne smrti) v koledarskem letu in so jih po zakonu dolžni posredovati vsi izvajalci, ne glede na vir plačila. Podatki o umrlih predstavljajo umrle s stalnim prebivališčem v Republiki Sloveniji, ki so umrli od 1. januarja do 31. decembra leta 2000. Ker je smrt enkraten dogodek in se podatki o umrlih osebah in vzrokih njihove smrti rutinsko zbirajo za vso državo, so pomembni za ocenjevanje zdravstvenega stanja prebivalcev.
