Abstract     Infectious diseases remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children as well as in adult patients. Infections in children differ from those in adults, in terms of their aetiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, management and prevention. The training program in pediatric infectious diseases intended to improve the level of care of children with infectious diseases, including children with congenital or acquired immunodefficiency. A Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist has the basic knowledge of paediatrics and indepth theoretical and practical knowledge of infectious diseases. He is able to recognize, manage, prevent and provide consultation on diseases caused by microorganisms. On the basis of their training, Paediatric Infectious Diseases Specialists should be competent to provide clinical care within the framework of a specialized tertiary care unit department or hospital, or out-patient care, or provide patients consultation in infectious diseases. He/she should also have knowledge about public health including immunization and prevention of outbreaks of hospital infections and-or communicable diseases in the society. The specialist should also be able to conduct research and teaching.
